Kent Asleson

Kent was raised in Grand Forks, North Dakota where he first started working for his father in the construction business at the age of 14. Kent attended the University of North Dakota where he received his degree in marketing. While in college, Kent worked a variety of construction jobs from building bridges to building racquetball courts. Kent enjoyed working with his hands as much as with his brain and so chose to make a career out of working with wood.
Kent became the first employee at the Navy Island Door and Frame Division in 1987. He started out in sales and has been working with customers ever since. In the early years Kent was instrumental in developing and coordinating our fire testing for our fire rated doors and frames. His knowledge of architectural doors, panels and frames is only equaled by his attention to detail and his passion to work with customers.
Kent and his wife have two kids, who all share a house with their two dogs, Sunny and Toula.Besides his love for wood, Kent also enjoys racquetball, hockey, hunting and staying in shape with the occasional video game with his son.
Philip Bernstein

Philip grew up in Apple Valley, Minnesota with an older brother. He was brilliant but chose to apply most of his talents outside of the classroom. Philip eventually he got his B.S in business from the University of St. Thomas.
After graduating, Philip traveled extensively throughout the US and South America where he learned to appreciate the beauty of unique and exotic woods. After returning home, he built custom wine cellars and did some general contracting for residential construction.
Philip started working at Navy Island in 2010 and resides in Bloomington, Minnesota where he is still single and hopes to one day have the opportunity to bestow his knowledge on a team of little Phil’s.
Philip is our resident LEED Accredited Professional and is very knowledgeable in sustainable forestry, cabinetmaking, veneers and architectural doors. Philip also stays active in a basketball league and is also the Navy Island sports statistician.
John Fumagalli

John came to Navy Island fresh out of college, where he's been a sales person since 2001. He attended the University of Kansas where he received his Bachelors degree in economics. While attending KU John was a left handed pitcher for the Jayhawks.
Originally from the Chicagoland area, he is a devoted White Sox and Bears fan. In the fall, you can more than likely find him in a duck blind. John stays involved with baseball by giving pitching lessons and working with local teams in his spare time. John currently resides in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago.
Glenn Guertin

Glenn grew up as the middle child in a family of eight children. He was the youngest of five boys but older than all the girls…. which explains why he started working with wood by the age of nine but doesn’t like to shop. He graduated from St. Paul’s Technical Vocational Institute with a degree in both carpentry and cabinet making.
Glenn’s first job out of school was framing houses. Once he mastered that trade, he started building cabinets and furniture for the next 12 years. Glenn joined the Navy Island Door and Frame Division in 1994 and soon became production manager. His knowledge of architectural doors and frames became so invaluable to customers that he was soon helping out in sales and project management. Glen is one of the most knowledgeable professionals in woodworking, architectural doors, fire codes and hardware schedules.
Glenn and his family enjoy riding snowmobiles in the winter, Harley’s in the summer and hunting in the fall with his Black Lab also known as “Harley”.
Tim Kephart

Tim grew up in a state park in Southwest Wisconsin, before coming to the Twin Cities in 1999. He graduated in 2003 from Northwestern College with a B.S. in Marketing. After getting married and moving to Alaska in 2004, Tim returned to Saint Paul and joined the Navy Island sales staff in January of 2005.
Tim and his wife Susan live in West Saint Paul with their two young girls, Madeline & Louisa. They enjoy just about any outdoor activity (camping, skiing, golfing, hiking, etc). Tim and Susan play music whenever possible, leading music at their local church and playing weddings and various functions.
Hans Mouritzen

Hans was born in Aalborg, Denmark, and by the age of 18 was working as an apprentice in a cabinet shop. He was a journeyman furniture maker at the age of 21, but left for a brief stint in the Danish Army. Hans later studied human geography at the University of Aarhus while traveling much of Europe.
In 1978, Hans returned to his calling of woodworking when he accepted a position with the International Design Center in Minneapolis to design and make European styled furniture. In 1980, Hans started his own woodshop, Danish Woodworks and continued designing and making custom furniture. In addition to laying up veneers for his own furniture, Hans made custom plywood for many of the local woodworkers.
In 2002 Hans joined Navy Island Plywood to help with sales and project management. Hans and his wife Margaret were married in 1980 and live in St. Paul with their numerous pets, including Hans' favorite, a parrot named Gizmo. Hans and Margaret share a passion for classical music, sea kayaking and the outdoors.
Scott Ryther

Scott spent 9 years in retail sales and retail purchasing before working at Navy Island. In 2004 he married Nadine, his childhood sweetheart, and together they have a beautiful 2 year old daughter named Audrey.
Scott is an avid competitor and especially enjoys disk golf, where he consistently ranks in the top standings for his division. He also dominates at table tennis, which he uses to regularly keep his fellow salemen's egos in check.
